2013-10-24 14:19:00
Jörg Rheinboldt, 41, is appointed CEO of Axel Springer Plug and Play with immediate effect. Axel Springer AG and Plug and Play Tech Center, a leading start-up investor and accelerator based in Silicon Valley, joined forces for the Berlin accelerator at the beginning of 2013. Ulrich Schmitz and Saeed Amidi remain part of the management team as founding directors of Axel Springer Plug and Play.
Jörg Rheinboldt founded "denkwerk", one of the first Internet agencies, back in 1994. In 1999 he was a co-founder of "alando AG", which was sold to "eBay" shortly afterwards. Here he was responsible as managing director until 2004 for its development into "eBay Germany". This was followed by many other entrepreneurial activities and business start-ups. Saeed Amidi, founder and CEO of Plug and Play Tech Center: "We are delighted that Jörg Rheinboldt has joined Axel Springer Plug and Play. He has been instrumental in helping to build the idea of this accelerator and has shown he can, as a mentor, add great conviction to the startups, crystallizing their business idea, helping with their real problem solving solutions and raising money. It will be wonderful to have him as a leader of this accelerator." Ulrich Schmitz, Chief Technology Officer at Axel Springer: "Jörg Rheinboldt has not only built up a number of successful companies himself, but has also actively promoted innumerable founders with his experience. With him on board there is yet another important reason for Internet start-ups to choose Axel Springer Plug and Play as a partner for further growth." Axel Springer Plug and Play targets founders with media-related business concepts which have high market potential and are technologically pioneering. The first three-month program which started in May 2013 saw eight start-ups supported with intensive coaching, access to an international network of partners and seed investment. The second program is currently starting.
