Axel Springer acquires CeleraOne GmbH, a leading provider of paid content technology in Germany.

The acquisition strengthens Axel Springer's IT expertise in a strategic core area. At the same time, the company becomes a technology provider in the growth business of payment technology.

CeleraOne, founded in 2012, specializes in the real-time processing of large data volumes and is a service provider for numerous German and Swiss publishers with its solutions for paid content technology. At Axel Springer, CeleraOne has already been applied in the paid content offerings of WELT and BILD since their launches in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Founders Moritz Hilger and Tim Eggert will remain with CeleraOne for the long term and will continue in their current positions. The business with artificial intelligence solutions for the steel industry is no longer part of CeleraOne and will be headed by co-founder Dr Falk-Florian Henrich.

Stephanie Caspar, CEO News Media National & Technology Axel Springer SE: "Users' willingness to pay has increased significantly worldwide. Paid content technology is one of the key value drivers of the digital distribution business. With the acquisition of CeleraOne we combine three goals: investment in a growth business, the further expansion of technology and data competence as well as the constant development of paid journalistic offerings."

Moritz Hilger, founder and CEO of CeleraOne: "We are pleased to have found a strong partner in Axel Springer for the further development of our platform. Combining great experience and innovative technologies, we will be able to support providers of paid content offerings with our solutions even better in the future."
