Axel Springer and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. announced the launch of UPDAY, an aggregated news content platform that will be pre-installed on the new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge devices for customers in France, Germany, Poland and the UK.

The first full service to be borne out of a new strategic partnership formed by Axel Springer and Samsung Electronics last year, UPDAY provides users with two types of content: 'Need to Know' information, which is selected by a local market editorial team; and 'Want to Know' information, an algorithm-based service tailored to customers' individual interests.

The full service rollout follows a successful beta launch in Germany and Poland last year, which saw unprecedented user engagement. Building on extensive user feedback, UPDAY draws on over 1,200 sources, including news publishers, blogs and video content from leading media such as "The Economist", "The Daily Telegraph", "Le Figaro", BILD, "Spiegel" and Onet.pl.

Peter Würtenberger, CEO UPDAY: "UPDAY provides content through a combination of editorial curation by a team of expert media and intelligent machine learning. While other aggregators rely solely on algorithms when providing content, it's this dynamic between human interaction and data science that sets UPDAY apart."

Young Hoon Eom, President & CEO, Samsung Electronics Europe: "The new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge not only blend stunning design and best-in-class technology but also offer unparalleled connectivity to a world of products and services that deliver unique experiences. UPDAY is a high-quality, rich service delivering locally relevant and personalised content, which we believe will even further excite and delight our new S7 customers in France, Germany, Poland and the UK."
