ACI Europe held the Europe Best Airport Awards for the 11th time during its annual general assembly, organized in Prague in late June this year. ACI Europe is the largest international umbrella organization of airport operators on the continent, with no less than 461 airports and heliports all over Europe as members. The Europe Best Airport Awards are decided by a jury of renowned aviation industry representatives and key institutional stakeholders, including the European Commission, EUROCONTROL and others. This year Budapest Airport received one of the two "highly commended" titles in its own category of airports with 5-10 million passengers annually. This means that the Hungarian capital airport finished in the top league of European airports according to an independent jury of experts, based on a series of wide-ranging criteria. In a letter of congratulation to the CEO of Budapest Airport, Mr. Olivier Jankovec, director general of ACI Europe wrote: "We have created the Best Airports Awards to honor those airports that have really stood out over the past 12 months - across different size categories, irrespective of their geographical location. These awards aim to recognize excellence and achievements across a wide range of disciplines relating to airport operations and management - including customer service, facility development and management, community relations and environmental awareness." "We are proud to have received yet another industry recognition for our efforts to make Budapest Airport one of the leading aviation centers in Europe, both for the benefit of our passengers and our airline partners," said Jost Lammers, the CEO of Budapest Airport. He added: "This award encourages us to aim for further quality enhancements in our services, so that Budapest Airport can better serve the Hungarian tourism industry and the economy. I am grateful to our airport staff, since their constant hard work on service quality enables Budapest to successfully compete to host major international sports events, for example in swimming, the Euro football championships or the Olympic bid for 2024."
